Decorating Your Man Cave

Man Cave

My man cave has come a long way from the concrete floor, walls and truss ceiling. I studded the walls in small sections with cheap grade studs. Then drywalled the ceiling and walls in sections as money became available. A little paint, a nice upgrade of indoor outdoor carpet, some recess lighting and the room was complete. All in all it took about a year on the shell of my room. I wanted the room to be my space, but I also wanted on special occasions, to use the room as an overflow for guests during holiday parties and such. You can decorate your man cave in the theme that best fits your personality and your budget. I do have a lightly used recliner and love seat for comfort, and a 32″ flat screen TV. Even though I have a large room, that size TV seems to work best. My decorating preferences run to another era in time, in particular the 50′s and 60′s. As you can see my walls are decorated with the theme of cars from that era (1957 Chevy’s are my favorite), my favorite sports team of the era “The Yankees”, and old movie stars such as James Dean, and Humphrey Bogart. Originally the tile area was going to have a bar. I’ve changed my mind since starting, and in going with the time era theme, I decided to build a diner style booth. Some plywood, studs, foam and vinyl covering is all you will need. I’m thinking of adding a small table top decoration, like a small “juke box” CD player filled with music of the 50′s and 60′s. Good luck in decorating your man cave, and take your time, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

On a side note my wife has requested she be able to use the room once a year for a sock hop type party, with all our friends. I figure since the entire room is mine for 99.9% of the year, and the party is from my favorite era what the heck. I’ll grease back my hair into a D.A.,  and throw on my leather jacket, watch my wife dance around in her poodle skirt, and play songs like “The Twist” by Chubby Checker. We even found party supplies for the era and costumes for our friends to wear to the party from a web site called Best Haloween Costumes.

Making Of A Man Cave

The new craze sweeping the country is the “Man Cave”. Simply put a man cave is a mans private retreat to relax after a long days work. The best thing about it is they can be inexpensive to furnish and any room can be used.

The floor covering could be inexpensive carpet, an area rug, vinyl tile, or even painted concrete would do. Next is furniture. An old couch, a recliner, and a table or rack to hold your favorite magazines would be enough to start. Next a man cave is not complete without a TV and stereo. Themes are always great when decorating your room. Your man cave can be decorated in what ever you love. from the Civil War to sports. If football is your thing go to a thrift store or flea market and your sure to find old pictures and posters to frame. For your Sunday football games invite your friends over and have a party. You can find NFL party supplies at a discount, even party kits for up to 8 guests. Maybe your into a certain time era like the fabulous fifties. Black and white tile flooring would be perfect. Neon lights and signs, tall tables and if you can afford it an old juke box.

Your “Man Cave” can be what ever you choose, but once in awhile invite your wife or best girl to join you for a relaxing evening.
